Core Training

Every new CARE Team trainee, irrespective of experience and background, is required to complete at least six operational shifts under the supervision of experienced team members before being considered for sign-off. During these training shifts, they will be expected to demonstrate all the competencies set out in our core curriculum, which is mapped against the Phase 1a IBTPHEM curriculum. To assist them through the core training process each trainee will be assigned a Team Member as a mentor.

In addition to their clinical shifts, all CARE Trainees are required to complete the following:

  1. Attend at least 2 x Training Education and Governance (TEG) Meetings every 6 months.
  2. Successfully complete a Pre-Hospital Emergency Anaesthesia Assist (PHEAA) Course.
  3. Gain satisfactory Multi-source feedback from colleagues

Once these have been achieved, the Trainee becomes eligible to complete a sign-off shift with one of our experienced clinical leads. Success will confer full Team Member status and allow them to provide clinical support to a clinical lead on operational shifts.  Trainees with significant prehospital experience may be considered for fast-track training and sign-off.
