Lecture – What can Enhanced Care Team’s bring to your patient a cased based discussion.
Dr Tom Burton will deliver an interactive, case-based session that places learners in the role of an enhanced care clinician, working through challenging cases in head injury, cardiac arrest & major trauma. The session explores advanced interventions, physiology-guided resuscitation, ultrasound, critical care decision-making and destination planning, while also looking ahead to emerging technologies and the future of pre-hospital emergency medicine.

Workshop – Enhanced Care Skills and Ten Second Triage.
This workshop will give attendees an opportunity to get hands on with common enhanced care equipment and will include practical discussion of the Ten Second triage Tool.
Attendees will by guided by our volunteer faculty, giving tips from their pre-hospital experience.

Lecture – Maternal Emergencies
Join Dr. Jenny Scallan for an interactive teaching session exploring the recognition and management of time-critical maternal emergencies in the pre-hospital environment.

Using realistic scenarios and practical demonstrations on a birthing manikin, you will work through the assessment and management of cord prolapse, shoulder dystocia, breech presentation, and post-partum haemorrhage. This session is designed to improve confidence in managing rare but high-acuity obstetric emergencies, with plenty of opportunity for discussion and questions.

Critical Care Paramedic Ryan Ferris will deliver a talk focused on doing the basics with purpose. Learn how understanding the physiology behind CPR can help optimise compressions, minimise interruptions, and deliver more effective resuscitation in the prehospital environment.

Special Circumstances in Cardiac Arrest 
WMAS Paramedic Niamh Carolan will deliver a talk focused on delivering an insight into special circumstances surrounding cardiac arrest. She will present some of the supporting evidence and how to approach these challenging situations to be able deliver gold standard patient care.

Case Study Session – Unusual Paediatric Emergencies
Dr Vicki Currie will be discussing uncommon paediatric emergencies through the use of some interesting case studies. Children don’t always read the ‘rule book’ and can present in unusual ways. This will surely be an interesting discussion even for those who only see children rarely.

Workshops – Advanced Monitoring
This workshop will give attendees an opportunity to gain some understanding around advanced monitoring modalities available in the pre-hospital setting.

Capnography – Capnography is the non-invasive monitoring and real-time graphical display of carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration in a patient’s exhaled breath, providing information about their ventilation, perfusion, and metabolism.

POCUS – Point-of-Care Ultrasound. It is the use of portable ultrasound devices by clinicians at the patient’s bedside to rapidly obtain real-time images, which helps in diagnosing, managing, and guiding procedures for acutely ill or injured patients without needing to wait for formal imaging studies. POCUS is a growing and valuable tool that complements traditional physical examination and can be used in various settings, from emergency rooms and intensive care units to preclinical and remote locations.

Invasive Arterial Blood Pressure – Invasive arterial blood pressure (BP) monitoring uses an arterial catheter to provide continuous, real-time, “beat-to-beat” BP data, which is considered the gold standard for managing critically ill patients

The anatomy of a time critical incident 
Drs Jenny Scallan, Rachel Edwards and Thomas Burton will deliver a case based learning discussion focused on:
– Teamwork in time critical trauma emergencies
– Penetrating and blunt trauma scenarios
– PHEA and thoracotomy discussions

There will be 2 trauma scenarios discussed;
– One blunt trauma, TBI, needing PHEA with a talk through things such as neuroprotective measures etc. 
– The next will be a penetrating trauma – stab wound to the chest and a talk through things like bleeding mimics, STAB-5, tension pneumothorax etc
