Junior Membership

Introduction

The Junior Membership Programme launched in January 2023 to address the limited opportunities for early-career clinicians to experience and learn from pre-hospital emergency medicine.

The programme has grown steadily, expanding from Medical Students and Junior Doctors to include Paramedics and Nurses in the early years of their careers.

Today, we aim to maintain a membership of up to 10 Junior Members at any one time. This keeps the programme personal, ensures meaningful exposure to shifts, and allows us to provide individualised support and mentorship.

The Junior Membership Programme exists to give it’s members first-hand experience of pre-hospital care, develop their clinical and professional skills, and offer opportunities to contribute to the CARE Team’s mission both on and off shift.

Clinical Observerships

Junior Members are offered regular observer shifts with CARE’s clinical teams.
These shifts provide hands-on exposure to PHEM, opportunities for on-shift training and familiarisation with specialist equipment.

Research

Junior Members receive academic mentorship and guidance in research and audit methodology. They are supported in developing their own research projects and assist in preparing work for submission to conferences or publication in academic journals.

Fundraising & Community Outreach

Junior Members play a crucial role in helping to sustain and support the charity’s fundraising and outreach work.

Recent activities have included street collections, delivering basic life support teaching sessions and representing CARE at community outreach events.

Education & Training

Junior Members are invited to attend the team’s monthly Training, Education & Governance meetings, regular CARE Team sessions, and quarterly Education & Development days.
In addition, they gain access to the team’s online Moodle platform, which is packed with high-quality educational resources.

In addition to these core activities, Junior Members engage with the CARE Team in a wide range of roles, including Operational Support, Social Media Promotion, IT Development and various Clinical Governance projects.

Each Junior Member is mentored by a senior team member and receives a six-monthly appraisal to ensure they are gaining maximum benefit and development from the program.
